As you can probably guess from the title of this post, I'm reading Elantris right now - and what's more, it's one of the first books I ever reviewed (right back here, if you're interested). Having read Sanderson's latest works (The Mistborn Series), I really wanted to read his first published foray into fantasy. Note that while an Elantrian's power grows weaker the further he/she is from Elantris, a Seon's does not — Hrathen is able to use his to communicate with someone on the other side of the world without any problems. Elantris was the capital of Arelon: gigantic, beautiful, literally radiant, filled with benevolent beings who used their powerful magical abilities for the benefit of all. And now its shattered citizens face domination by a powerful Imperium motivated by dogged religious views. It was called the city of the gods: a place of power, radiance and magic. Visitors say that the very stones glowed with an inner light, and that the city contained wondrous arcane marvels. I agree with what he's said in the post, by the way.
